Susan Mariconda earned a BFA in Ceramics from the Moore College of Art in 1978. Upon graduation she traveled to North Wales, U.K. to serve a 2 year apprenticeship with production potter Alan Hughes.

Returning to the US Susan held a series of non-art related jobs which led her to attend x-ray school. While working in the medical technology field her abilities as an illustrator were brought to the attention of several doctors. This association led to free lance employment as an illustrator specializing in medical illustrations.

It was during this time that Susan’s desire to express herself artistically through pottery returned. This time she wanted to create ceramic pieces that extolled her emphasis on painting detail and superior craftsmanship. Thanks to a supportive husband Ashbee Pottery became a reality in the summer of 1998.
